Ollie's unconventional coaching education could help others
When Kevin Ollie was tabbed to replace Jim Calhoun as head coach of the UConn Huskies just one year after retiring from the NBA, questions were raised about the hire. Some believed Ollie's lack of coaching experience would make the job of replacing Calhoun, a Hall of Famer, nearly impossible.
But after winning a national championship for the Huskies just two years into the job, Ollie silenced his critics. Not only that, though: Ollie's success demonstrates how our traditional definition of coaching experience may not be adequate.
