It's more than a minor coincidence that our two-part examination of the mechanics of the new 68-team NCAA tournament field comes from Penn State; I am here in the land of Joe Paterno not to visit Beaver Stadium but to contribute to this week's ESPN Tip-Off Marathon.

The Penn State Nittany Lions host the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Tuesday (ESPN3 , 7:30 p.m. ET). In the grand scheme of things, this isn't an especially meaningful game -- but then again, if we were to turn back the clock to March 2009, we would quickly realize that every game has become meaningful to the Lions.
