Never a better time than now for these six

A common notion is that teams should somehow be compared to previous league champions in order to judge their true worth. How dumb. Conference champions must only be better than their league opponents in that one particular season, not any other.

For example, Cal won the Pac-10 last season for the first time in 50 years. Was that team better than the one from two years prior that had two draft picks and many of the same members yet finished in ninth place? Was last season's Duke team nearly as talented as the previous three Blue Devils national title teams? Who knows? Who cares?
