This was supposed to be the year.
I'm guessing you are aware of this fact, but it's still worth noting: Northwestern has NEVER made the NCAA tournament. Not once. Despite hosting the first-ever Final Four, despite all the talent within the borders of Illinois and the mean streets of Chicago, one of the finest academic institutions in the country has failed to make the Big Dance.
But it was all setting up for this season. This was going to be the breakthrough.
