Point guard play more important than ever

I was told that shortly after Larry Eustachy's first season as head coach at Iowa State in 1999, following a 15-15 season and a first-round exit in the Big 12 tournament, he walked into the basketball office and shouted to his assistants, "One of you get me an NBA point guard, or you are all out of a job."
The following season, Jamaal Tinsley arrived on campus from Mount San Jacinto (Calif.) Community College, joining Marcus Fizer to form one of the most potent one-two combos in the nation. Eustachy and the Cyclones went on to win two straight Big 12 regular-season titles and the 2000 Big 12 championship.
