I just returned from a pre-Big 12 reconnaissance trip of Texas and Texas A&M over the weekend, which included a couple of Longhorn practices, Mark Turgeon's first game as the Aggies' coach and a sideline view of the Texas Tech-Texas football game. Here are some observations:

• Texas A&M freshman center DeAndre Jordan is a physical specimen and a likely NBA lottery pick. But, he is also a poster boy for the NBA rule mandating one year of college. He has a very limited offensive package at this stage of development, and I'd love to see more of a shot-blocking presence. That should come to him as the season unfolds.
