LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The state of Georgia always seems to be loaded with talent and this year's 2012 class is no different. This past weekend, at the Georgia AAU district qualifier, I got the chance to watch two of the top non-scholastic programs in the country in a unique setting without the usual hoards of scouting services around. It was great to watch some of the elite players compete without feeling like they had to "impress the judges" while also getting the opportunity to evaluate a few players that may be operating a little under the radar.

Top players

Shaq Goodwin (Decatur, Ga./Southwest Dekalb)
2012, PF, 6-foot-8, 215 pounds | Team: Atlanta Celtics
College: Undecided
With his consistent high level of play, the No. 13 rated player in the 2012 class, has become the alpha dog in the state of Georgia. He plays the game with such energy that he dominates opponents, while making others around him better. He also loves to play football, but he has a tremendous future on the hardwood. When he gets to college and focuses on one sport, there is no telling how far his game can go.
