There is a new player on the basketball scene within the Georgia Independent School Association that has its sights set on building a powerhouse. New Birth Christian Academy (NBCA), which is administered by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and pastured by Bishop Eddie Long, has decided to form a basketball program. The facilities in the Samson's Sports & Fitness Center are second to none and the school has hired veteran AAU coach Morris Gordon to head the program. "We are excited about starting the program here at NBCA," Gordon said. "We hope to attract solid young men who want great combination of a faith based education and an outstanding basketball program." NBCA is led by 6-foot-5 junior guard Tommy Williams and 6-foot sophomore point guard Brandon Goodwin. They are joined by two Canadian transplants -- 6-10 freshman center Jabari Craig and 6-9 sophomore forward Mathew Atewe -- who have already begun to draw attention from high major college coaches. Although NBCA's core group of players is young, the program is already expected to contend within the GISA and on the national level.
