You are hearing the laments all over the place. Did anyone really get penalized or harshly disciplined in the Memphis case? How did John Calipari escape without a sanction, even though his "legacy" will be two vacated Final Fours?
The penalty levied on Memphis seems so unsatisfying for the blood-thirsty onlookers who seem to want to punish the latest transgression harshly to balance all of the ills of the basketball culture.
I understand most of this rhetoric, and I respect it. Reasonable minds can disagree on these issues. But in my opinion, the issue is much simpler than I have seen it presented. Was the process fair and the result proportional to the offenses alleged? In my humble judgment, the answer is no.
