MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The most anticipated matchup was a dud and a small-town crowd favorite nearly rattled the Beach Ball Classic field Monday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Employing a 2-3 matchup zone defense, Columbia High of Decatur, Ga. found its rhythm in the second half surviving in a 64-61 win over plucky Concord (N.C.), 64-61, in the lone quarterfinal on Monday.

"We always preach, fight 'til the end," Columbia coach Dr. Phillip McCrary.
