Peep Show
American League
Anaheim Angels: Injuries continue to haunt the
division-leading Anaheim Angels. It was revealed
yesterday that an MRI done to the shoulder of a
resurgent Troy Glaus has revealed a condition similar
to the one that put the kibosh on his 2003 season. The
discovery was made while Glaus was also having a
different MRI on his knee, a test that revealed a
sprained ligament that is not thought serious. Glaus
has been DHing for the past two weeks while showing
the same punch he did in his career year of 2000.
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times writes the
team has no intention of putting him on the 15-day
disabled list as long as he can keep hitting. With
Garret Anderson on the DL and Tim Salmon scheduled to
come back soon, the Angels have to make some choices
about moving folks around. DiGiovanna suggests giving
Chone Figgins more playing time at third, allowing
Salmon, who had been DHing prior to his injury, to
play the outfield again.
New York Yankees: The Yankees longshot gamble on Jon Leiber appears to be paying off. While still more than a year away from returning, New York signed the former Cub with an eye on future returns. Leiber got the victory yesterday in a 7-4 win over the Angels and has now pitched 21 innings so far and has yet to walk a single batter. Does he consider himself all the way back from that which ailed him? "I'm not even thinking about that," he told Darren Everson of the New York Daily News. "The bottom line is I'm just grateful to get this second chance. I'm trying to make the most of it, keeping the games close and giving this team a chance to win."
