Money doesn't guarantee anything
The success of Calgary, San Jose and Tampa Bay proves deep pockets don't always equal good management.

For the second consecutive season, the NHL's final four teams aren't all free-spending clubs at the top of the league's payroll chart, proving again that deep pockets don't always equal good management.
At the beginning of the season, Calgary, San Jose and Tampa Bay were all in the bottom half of the 30-team NHL in money spent on their rosters. The Flames were 19th ($35.2 million), the Sharks were 20th ($34.8 million) and the Lightning were 21st ($33.5 million) in payroll.
