John Mullin of the Chicago Tribune writes about Jackie Robinson, the day after he was honored by Major League Baseball. He reminisces about seeing him play as a child and talks to current Cubs manager Dusty Baker about what Robinson meant to him.

It didn't have to be this way. Had things gone just a little differently, the shoe would have been on the other foot. Instead, Red Sox fans will be booing Alex Rodriguez tonight in his Fenway Park debut in a Yankee uniform. Jack Curry of the New York Times reexamines the events that led to this junction.

The last time these two teams met, Tim Wakefield was pitching to Aaron Boone when history intervened. Wakefield goes again tonight but Boone will be watching the game on television from his home in California. An offseason basketball injury put Boone in this spot but he is not shying away from the rematch, writes George King of the New York Post.
