Detroit Tigers: This is the first time since 1985 the Tigers have won their first three games to open the season. "There's no question we're a better team," manager Alan Trammell told Tom Gage of the Detroit News. "This is fun." Last year, the Tigers didn't win their third game until April 26, and it put them at 3-19.

Minnesota Twins: It wasn't supposed to be like this. Less than two games into the season, the best catching prospect of recent memory is on the disabled list and could be out a month. Joe Mauer is going to need knee surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus and could miss a month of the season, reports Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. What long-term impact might this have on his career? Twins trainer Jim Kahmann noted that, "Some people have one episode and that's it, and they have no other problems. Other people, it's a continual problem with the knee. For catchers, because they're squatting, this is a concern." What is more, backup catcher Matt LeCroy was placed on the 15-day disabled list late last night after straining his ribs. Rob Bowen was recalled from Double A to back up Henry Blanco, who has to be wondering if he's next among fallen Twins catchers. The news just keep getting worse for the Twins. They are monitoring the condition of Torii Hunter's trained hamstring with an eye on putting him on the disabled list as well.
