When former Tiger slugger and current minor league coach Willie Horton first went to spring training with the Tigers in 1962, he entered a world of ignorance and intolerance. While the problems he encountered may still exist in some forms, their institutionalized components have been eradicated. What he experienced -- and in some ways helped change himself -- is a testament to the fact that a negative status quo does not have to be forever.
