Sergei Gonchar
Toronto Maple Leafs: It's partly speculation, but the Toronto Star reports that the Maple Leafs are the front-runners in the competition to obtain star defenseman Sergei Gonchar from the Capitals. Other teams are dropping out because of the high demands of the Capitals and the Leafs, a Star source said, want Gonchar badly.

Washington Capitals: The Washington Post reports that Toronto has the best offer for Gonchar with Boston and New Jersey also in the hunt. The Post also stated Vancouver, Los Angeles and New Jersey are trying to get Caps defenseman Brendan Witt while Dallas and Nashville have frequently scouted Washington games lately.

New Jersey Devils: Defenseman Scott Stevens is glad to finally show some progress, albeit minor, in his recovery from a concussion. The Devils captain won't discuss a target date for his return, but the playoffs at least look like a possibility.
