Broncos need a shutdown cornerback
Cornerback: The Broncos lack a shutdown corner who can match up with No. 1 receivers without safety help. Lenny Walls is big, aggressive and hasn't been bad as a starter, but he is not a great technician and tends to make mistakes and allow separation. He and Kelly Herndon, the other starter, are physical corners who are effective when they can get their hands on receivers. Unrestricted free agent Jimmy Spencer is a smart backup, but he is nearing the end of his career. Willie Middlebrooks has never played up to his potential and is starting to look like a bust. Walls and Herndon would make for a nice No. 2 and 3 corners, but neither can be the sort of shutdown cover corner the Broncos need on the perimeter.
