Spielman, Wannstedt on short leash
A.J. Feeley is short on experience but the Dolphins feel he has what it takes to be a starter.

Last offseason the Carolina Panthers felt, with their strong defense, all they
needed to make a run to the Super Bowl was a quarterback who could manage
the game well. So they took a chance
on Jake Delhomme, who had only two starts and 86 pass attempts on his
resume. The maneuver paid off, as the Panthers almost
brought the Lombardi Trophy back to Carolina.
The Dolphins are hoping that their proposed trade for A.J. Feeley will produce similar results. Like Delhomme, Feeley is short on experience, but some teams around the league feel he's got what it takes to be a starter. When Chad Pennington got hurt last year, the New York Jets considered making a deal for the former Oregon Duck.
Feeley himself closely watched the Delhomme situation, knowing how Delhomme's success could create opportunities for him. "Seeing something like that can be reassuring," he said following the Super Bowl. "It makes you think the waiting game pays off."
