A-Rod doesn't guarantee anything

No matter how talented this Yankee team is, things could still go awry for them come October.

Let's face facts: it's the Yankees world and we're just living in it. 90 percent of today's Site Lines are about the American League champions. Here's a sampling of what is being written:

Let's trot out that modern cliché: "Don't hate the player, hate the game." In this case, if the player keeps it up, more and more people are going to hate the game. I received a number of letters yesterday from fans so disgusted by the Alex Rodriguez deal that they have sworn off baseball. I'm sure they'll be back once spring is in the air and the sound of bats hitting ball fill the air, but George Steinbrenner's continued dominance is souring the taste for the game for many. Richard Sandomir of the New York Times writes that Steinbrenner might seem like he is out of control, but there is a very definite logic at work in what he does.

  • Glenn Dickey of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that this latest Yankee deal illustrates the need for a salary cap in baseball. With the left side of the Yankee infield making more than a number of entire rosters, Dickey points to the National Football League as the place baseball needs to look for inspiration.
