Green Bay Packers: Frank Novak, who retired as the club's special teams coach after the 2002 season only to become an assistant to his replacement John Bonamengo, will return in that capacity next season. "What I am is another set of eyes and ears that has been in the league a long time and I know what I'm talking about," Novak told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "It just gives you someone who has some credibility, someone who has done it before. We work it out together. It just falls in place." Having two guys work on special teams is becoming more and more popular. Last year, nine of the 32 National Football League teams had full-time assistants and six had assistants with partial duties in special teams. A total of 16 teams had only the head special-teams coach listed under special teams.

Washington Redskins: The Miami Dolphins, who seem resigned to the fact that the Redskins will get QB Mark Brunell, have shifted they're attention towards Patrick Ramsey. According to the Washington Post the Fish have offered them their first-round pick (No. 20 overall). "We'll just wait and see what the Redskins do," said Ramsey's agent, Jimmy Sexton. "Patrick wants to start for Joe Gibbs and the Redskins. But if not, Patrick wants to start in the NFL. My overriding concern is Patrick Ramsey and his career."

Pittsburgh Steelers: Since K Jeff Reed missed more field goals than all but one kicker in the AFC last year and he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his hip in January, the Steelers though they needed some insurance. They got that Wednesday when they signed John Markham, Vanderbilt University's all-time leading scorer, signed a two-year contract according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers immediately allocated Markham to NFL Europe, where he'll play this spring.
