Oakland hoping Dye regain form

  • Yesterday, we took a jaundiced view of Scott Boras' claims that Greg Maddux was some kind of pitching guru and deserved more money from the Cubs because of it. Rick Morrissey looks at the same situation but with a far more satiric bent in this very good column in today's Chicago Tribune.

  • Was the Pudge Rodriguez deal good for the Tigers? Here's one writer who thinks it was much, much better than that. Tom Gage of the Detroit News says that the beauty of it is in the details. If you look beyond the "four years/$40 million" and see how the deal is actually structured, it all worked out wonderfully for the Tigers.

  • On a more sobering note, Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press is hoping that Monday's signing of Rodriguez is not an indication that Tigers owner Mike Ilitch is getting emotional again. He points out that Ilitch's emotional peaks and valleys have been the undoing of the franchise over the past decade.
