New blood to energize All-Star game
Insider's Jim Wilkie offers his selections for the remaining All-Star roster spots to Colin Campbell.
Campbell's hockey operations department has the thankless job of filling out the rosters for the Eastern and Western Conference teams that will play Feb. 8 in St. Paul, Minn., and subjects itself to rounds of second-guessing after the selections are announced Thursday on ESPN and TSN.
My only beef with a few of Campbell's choices last year were preferences for better-known players who weren't playing like All-Stars, such as Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames. In his defense, Campbell consults with GMs trying to sell him on certain players, and in some cases urging him not to name other players because a GM might believe a certain player won't properly handle being an All-Star.
