Boston Bruins: Surviving a 13-shot first period onslaught by Detroit was the first good sign that Bruins goalie Andrew Raycroft might be over his midseason slump. Stopping every Red Wings shot the rest of the way in a 3-0 victory Wednesday night should prove he's overcome the apparent fatigue that set in recently.

Los Angeles Kings: Los Angeles forward Sean Avery's goal and an assist Wednesday night in a 4-4 tie with Anaheim was impressive, but the most surprising statistic of the night was Avery's zero penalty minutes. The NHL leader in PIM said he didn't have anything to prove after he was benched Saturday for taking bad penalties and criticizing his teammates.

Ottawa Senators: Ottawa GM John Muckler is in a buying mood, but he's still deciding what he needs. With Vaclav Varada out for the season, the Senators need some grit and some possible candidates to come the Senators' way are Avery, Phoenix's Tyson Nash or Edmonton's Georges Laraque.
