Kansas City Royals: I was surprised to find there was a "race" to sign the highly problematic Juan Gonzalez, but the headline in today's Kansas City Star says the Royals are the frontrunners in it. His agent, Alan Nero, says there are two other teams in the bidding and also adds his client his 100 percent healthy. Gonzalez is 34 and has played more than 115 games only once in the last four seasons. He has missed more than half his team's games over the past two seasons. Because of that, any deal with the Royals is probably going to contain incentives pertaining to games played, writes Dick Kaegel. The pursuit of Gonzalez has put their other rightfield possibility -- Raul Mondesi -- into the shadows for now.
