St. Louis ready to face Detroit

St. Louis badly needs to beat Detroit to prove it belongs in the elite class of Western Conference contenders.

St. Louis might be the best team in the NHL so far this season, but even with a victory Monday night over Detroit the best the Blues can do is tie the Red Wings for first in the Western Conference.

Even though the Red Wings have played six more games than the Blues, St. Louis badly needs to beat its archrival and nemesis at Joe Louis Arena to prove it belongs in the elite class of teams and threaten Detroit's two-year reign as Central Division champions.

"If we want to win our division, that's got to be a priority -- winning our six-game segment with (Detroit)," Blues head coach Joel Quenneville told the Detroit Free Press. "I know that's easier said than done."
