The Broncos won a must-win game on Sunday, but might have lost RB Clinton Portis for the immediate future.
The Broncos had miraculously sent the game into the extra period after driving from their own 25-yard line to Cleveland's 17 with no timeouts in under a minute to put Jason Elam in position for a 36-yard field goal.
Then, after holding the Browns to a three-and-out, the Broncos got the ball near midfield and quickly drove into field goal range. But then, instead of attempting a 28-yarder, the Broncos chose to run one more play. They gained three yards, but lost star running back Clinton Portis.
Portis injured his ankle and knee, though the severity of the injury is unknown at this point. But the fact that he was carried off the field leads one to believe that it's serious enough to keep him out at least for the rest of the regular season and perhaps the playoffs, should Denver get that far.
