Kovalchuk stealing the show
Ilya Kovalchuk has undoubtedly been the most valuable player in the league so far.
The NHL schedule officially hits the quarter pole at the 10-minute mark of the second period of the Edmonton at Columbus game on Tuesday night, but I'll just have to risk that nothing momentous will take place between now and then. Plus, waiting to evaluate every team at precisely 20½ games wasn't going to cut it.
So here's the best and the worst of the NHL season so far with the early favorites for the annual awards, heading into Monday's games:
