Cleveland Indians: The Indians took the step of securing the services of their best player yesterday, signing centerfielder Milton Bradley to a one-year, $1.7 million contract. This is a five-fold leap from his 2003 salary and helps them both avoid arbitration. Bradley missed a portion of last season with a bad back but is on target with his rehab reports Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer. "Milton is in the best shape of his life," said Cleveland GM Mark Shapiro. "He's committed to his back program. He's focused and working out every day."

New York Yankees: According to Dwight Gooden, Gary Sheffield's A-1 2004 destination is Yankee Stadium. Gooden, who also happens to be Sheffield's uncle and a Yankee employee, believes New York is where he belongs and says it's where he wants to be. "He's impatient; he wanted to do it the first day they could talk about money," he told Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News. Sheffield finished third in the 2004 National League MVP voting, announced yesterday.
