  • Who is going to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award? Who the heck knows, writes Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News. The wide open field could help perennial also-ran Alex Rodriguez or it could favor someone like Jorge Posada of the Yankees, he believes. One interesting thing he notes is that, while the actual award won't be announced until today, the fact that ten players received at least one first-place vote has been confirmed. That's a pretty amazing development.

  • Just what the heck is the MVP Award anyway? So ponders John Rosenthal in the New York Times just as Major League Baseball is about to announce this year's winners.

  • Two weeks ago, Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal Constitution ran an idea up a flagpole to see who would salute it: trade Chipper Jones. Now, he's revisiting the topic and still seems bent on the notion that such a move would be best for everybody.
