American League

Chicago White Sox: Bob Finnigan of the Seattle Times writes that new Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is a very good friend of Mariners pitcher Freddie Garcia. With this in mind, look for Chicago to make an offer on him. Finnigan reminds us inquiries regarding Garcia have already come from the Phillies, Red Sox and Yankees.

Detroit Tigers: Brent Abernathy could well be on his way to becoming a Tiger, writes Tom Gage of the Detroit News. The 26 year-old second baseman has been released from his Royals minor league contract. He showed some promise as a rookie with Tampa Bay in 2001 but has seen major slippage in performance since. Last year he barely appeared in the majors, batting just 35 times in which he got two singles and a walk.
