New York Giants: TE Johnny Mitchell, who recently ran a 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds, on grass, at 255 pounds, called the team Monday about replacing the injured Jeremy Shockey, but was told the Giants were not interested. Mitchell, a former Jets No. 1 draft choice, has been trying to get back into the league after walking away from the game, and was in training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars. "I will not go to my grave regretting a lost talent or potential," Mitchell told the New York Post. "I squandered that. I would like to recover some of it back." Mitchell said several NFL teams told him they will bring him in for a look next spring.

Jacksonville Jaguars: DE Hugh Douglas has been a major disappointment this season. The crowning jewel of the Jags offseason spending spree, he has one sack on the year and has gone sackless in eight consecutive games, the longest such stretch in his career. And when asked if Douglas would be released after this season, the Florida Times-Union reports coach Jack Del Rio refused to try an justify Douglas' performance or give him a public vote of confidence, and instead refused to answer the question. "Why talk about next year?" Del Rio said in response to questions about Douglas. "We have Tennessee to talk about."
