  • Don Mattingly has never had any regrets about leaving baseball at the age of 34 and missing out on all those Yankee championships. Bill Madden of the New York Daily News writes that the new hitting coach is looking forward to getting back into the game, though, after taking eight years off to be with his family.

  • This might be a good sign for Brian Cashman: his owner will not let the Mariners talk to him about the GM vacancy in Seattle. While it is always assumed that Cashman is Steinbrenner whipping boy number one after a postseason defeat, it appears that there is enough love there from the owner to want to keep other suitors at bay. John Hickey of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
