Lions need experience behind Harrington

The Lions should have made it a priority to get a capable backup to tutor second-year QB Joey Harrington.

Currently, no one other than coach Steve Mariucci knows who will be the Detroit Lions starting quarterback, and it's doubtful he's made a decision at this point.

He's got the unenviable task of deciding between a pair of quarterbacks -- Joey Harrington and Mike McMahon -- whose career passer ratings are south of 59.0. Which is why no one should be referring to this situation as a quarterback controversy, because at least one of them would have to be playing well for that to happen.
