Martinez a "punk" for throwing at Karim Garcia and
threatening Jorge Posada with a skulling. Lest you
scream "bias," however, he does take Don Zimmer to
task for his antics.
Thomas Boswell of the Washington Post tries to sort
out the finger-pointing, name calling and schoolyard
nonsense surrounding Saturday's foolishness at Fenway.
Boswell sums it up nicely when he says, "The inventory
of pettiness here at the Fens over the last two days
is getting rather impressive."
Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald wants to believe
Pedro Martinez when he says he did not want to dig
himself a deeper hole on Saturday and, therefore,
could not possibly have been throwing at Karim Garcia,
but he remains skeptical. ``I just wanted to get in
(on Garcia) and make sure I got (inside), because the
previous batter got a hit to right field on a pitch I
missed location,'' Martinez told Massarotti. ``I
wasn't feeling all that well in the first three
innings.''
