In the front office and behind the bench, the Nashville Predators have been refreshingly stable in the panic-minded NHL. Although the team hasn't made the playoffs in any of its five seasons, general manager David Poile and head coach Barry Trotz have kept their jobs.

That stability hasn't been matched on the ice, however. After making drastic offseason changes, particularly on defense, Poile and Trotz might have their jobs on the line in season six.

Although Poile has tried to build the Predators through the draft, the development has been slower than hoped and looks stalled especially after the Minnesota Wild made the playoffs and reached the Western Conference finals in their third year of existence.
