Mid-season changes not likely

At the season's quarter mark, four coaches are on the verge of unemployment. Unlike the NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball, the NFL doesn't make a habit of firing its coaches mid-season. And like most years, we likely won't see any of the league's 32 front men get the axe this season, but there are several coaches who are moving closer to the unemployment line with each embarrassing defeat.

One of the men on the hot seat is Chicago Bears skipper Dick Jauron. Over his four-plus seasons in the Windy City, the Bears' record is 28-39. But the more telling mark is that the midway monsters have lost 15 of their last 17 games, and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of hope that things will be turned around in the immediate future.

In his defense, the Bears were decimated with injuries last year and this year things aren't much better. With an offensive line that has been patched more than a country quilt, teams have blitzed the Bears mercilessly and they haven't had an answer for it.
