Training camps have given way to exhibition games and rosters have been trimmed. Now the competition for roster spots is really heating up around the NHL. Here's a look at some notable preseason news around the league:

Boston Bruins -- With many problems on defense plaguing Boston in the offseason, the Bruins are glad they acquired Dan McGillis from San Jose at the trade deadline in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

And McGillis is trying to make sure he stays in one place after starting last season with Philadelphia, where he'd spent the previous four years.
