Atlanta Falcons: Senior consultant Bobby Beathard has made exits from the game before but in
a phone interview Thursday he iterated that he will retire again after his
one-year deal expires this season. "This will be the last season," Beathard
told the Washington Times. "There's a lot of things I don't miss about the
game," he explained. "But game days, the friendships, a lot of neat people
... when it's over and I look back, if I ask myself would I do it again, the
answer is absolutely. It was worth it. [Falcons owner] Arthur Blank has
given me a great friendship." Beathard has advised Blank and is in part
responsible for the team's turnaround.
Jacksonville Jaguars: The club announced that DE Tony Brackens had his sack total increased from
one-half to two after the NFL reviewed Sunday's game against Carolina. With
only one sack in five games last year, his debut from microfracture knee
surgery was a rousing success. The Florida Times-Union reports Brackens was
given full credit for his half sack and he also got a sack for a forced
fumble on the Panthers' second-to-last offensive play before QB Jake
Delhomme threw the game-winning touchdown pass.
Detroit Lions: WR Az-Zahir Hakim practiced in pads Thursday for the first time in almost a
month, meaning he could possibly play in Green Bay Sunday. Hakim missed the
exhibition season and the opener because he is recovering from surgery on
his right knee. "He felt pretty good," coach Steve Mariucci told the
Detroit News. "It could be this week. It doesn't have to be this week, but
it's getting close. We were going to play it by ear, based on how he feels
in practice. He feels pretty good."
