Denver Broncos: For years, DT Darius Holland has been long on potential and short on
production. That's why he'd been on four different teams since joining the
league in 1995. But after the former Colorado Buffalo returned to the place
of his greatest success as a football player, he seems to have stepped
up his game. Holland, who has had an excellent camp, signed a three-year
contract extension that, with incentives, could be worth $2.2 million,
according to the Denver Post. The deal will pay Holland the veteran minimum
$655,000 this season, $660,000 next season and $665,000 in 2005, with
incentives.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: For two weeks the Bucs have experimented with a lineup that had Cosey
Coleman at left guard and Jason Whittle at right guard, but Wednesday that
became their official starting lineup for Monday night's opener against the
Eagles. "Cosey had a solid camp and Jason had a solid camp,'' coach Jon
Gruden told the Tampa Tribune. "We're looking at Kerry Jenkins as a guy who
we think can be a left tackle, compete at left tackle.'' Whittle broke his
right leg in May minicamp and has had only about two weeks to get in
football shape, but the team is confident that he can play effectively
despite missing so much practice time.
Atlanta Falcons: QB Michael Vick had his fiberglass cast removed Wednesday, and team
orthopedist Andrew Bishop told the Athens Banner-Herald the third-year
player is "very unlikely" to require surgery. Vick is walking around now
with a removable, walking cast.
