Sorgi's success has Badgers seeing Roses

After Wisconsin rallied to win 24-17 at West Virginia after being down 17-7, fifth-year senior quarterback Jim Sorgi, who's finally a starter after three solid years of backup duty, ran around the field waving his index finger. He wasn't talking about rankings; he was merely celebrating his first victory as a starter.

Sorgi's poise in a difficult situation bodes well for Wisconsin, which boasts one of the nation's best runner-receiver combinations in Anthony Davis and Lee Evans. With a quarterback who knows how to use those weapons, the Badgers, who play Ohio State at home, are a serious threat to return to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1999.

  • Coach Barry Alvarez was encouraged by the lift linebacker Alex Lewis gave the Badgers by blocking a punt at West Virginia. But he's also looking for Lewis to be a consistently strong defender.
