Ripken would be first unanimous choice

  • It might be a little early yet, but Bob Matthews of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle thinks Cal Ripken, Jr. should be a unanimous choice for the Hall of Fame. If that does turn out to be the case, then he would be the first. Matthews lists the all-time greats and the percentage of ballots upon on which they appeared. That some of them weren't unanimous is shocking. As Hank Aaron once said about the men who left him off their ballots, "They shouldn't be allowed to vote for the Hall of Fame."

  • A Honus Wagner baseball card sighting is always big news -- even to non-card collectors. Such is the cachet of this rare item that anytime one surfaces, it bears attention.
