John Ferguson Jr. will become the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs sometime this week, whenever the team can find the right time for a news conference.
After hashing out contract details Tuesday, the announcement of Ferguson's hiring was delayed because Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment had some other business it wanted to tend to. The owners of the Maple Leafs and Raptors didn't want to upstage the NBA team's unveiling of Kevin O'Neill's new staff and the retirement of centre Eric Montross on Tuesday.
While Ferguson waits patiently in a Toronto hotel, he has been the subject of immense criticism because of his youth and lack of credentials compared with the other three finalists.
