The Red Sox lucked out when the Marlins let Kevin Millar get away so easily.

When Kevin Millar signed a $5.3M contract with the Red Sox on Feb.20, he laughed and said to himself, "What were they thinking?" Better question: what were the Marlins thinking when they let a .296 career hitter get away so easily? Better yet: what was Millar thinking when, after last season, he agreed to play for the Chunichi Dragons this year? At least when Millar changed his mind, Theo Epstein was only too happy to help him out of the deal. Japan wasn't right for Millar; neither was Florida. But Boston is. "I live downtown and walk to Fenway," says Millar. "It can't get any better than playing here. But I'm sure some people in Boston must have wondered, 'Who is this guy?'"
