Tampa Bay Buccaneers: After weeks of negotiations, the team is close to signing DT Anthony McFarland to a six-year extension. "I feel like we should be able to get this thing done here within the next 48 hours,'' McFarland's agent, Karl Bernard, told the Tampa Tribune. "We haven't finalized everything yet, but it's been imminent for a while, so it should happen any day now." The extension is believed to be worth approximately $30 million and include a signing bonus between $9 million and $10 million. Other bonuses will bring McFarland's guaranteed payout to about $11 million.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Following the news of WR Jimmy Smith's suspension, the Jags desperately needed another wideout to step up his play, and it looks like it's happened. WR Matthew Hatchette, a journeyman receiver who had a productive spring in NFL Europe, had four catches for 46 yards against Miami on Friday night and then caught two long touchdown passes down the sideline from QB Mark Brunell in 11-on-11 drills Monday. "Obviously, [Hatchette] has found a way to hook up with Mark down the sideline, which is a good thing for the offense," coach Jack Del Rio told the Florida Times-Union.

Washington Redskins: The club has made a contract proposal to CB Champ Bailey that includes a signing bonus of about $14.75 million, according to the Washington Post. The deal would make Bailey the highest-paid cornerback and one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL. The Skins want to sign Bailey, who is eligible for unrestricted free agency next spring, to a long-term contract extension prior to the season, and they delivered the proposal Sunday night to his agent, Jack Reale. Bailey and Reale plan to respond by the end of the week, sources said. "I talked to [Reale afterward] about what they talked about," Bailey told the Post. "I'm going to stay out of it and let Jack handle it. He's done well for me. I feel pretty good about letting him handle it."
