The New York Jets won eight of their final 11 regular season games last year, and despite a disappointing loss to the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the playoffs, hope sprung eternal that the Jets would field an even better team this year. One of the significant departures was guard Randy Thomas, but the Jets thought they had adequately filled his spot with free-agent acquisition Tom Nutten. But coach Herm Edwards was shocked to find out Thursday that Nutten, 31, has decided to call it quits after an eight-year career.
