'Niners praying Garcia's back holds up

If you asked the people in Carolina, St. Louis and Pittsburgh, they'll tell
you how important it is to have a quality backup quarterback on the roster.
By quality, I mean someone who can play large chunks of the season while the offense suffers no drop off.
Granted, it's a bit of a pipe dream for every team to have a Rodney Peete,
Marc Bulger or Tommy Maddox, especially in a time when the salary cap has
crippled a team's ability to hoard depth. But without one, an injury to a
starter can cripple a team's playoff chances. Just ask the Miami Dolphins,
who lost Jay Fiedler for six weeks, and in turn lost their chance to reach
the postseason.
