'Niners praying Garcia's back holds up

If you asked the people in Carolina, St. Louis and Pittsburgh, they'll tell you how important it is to have a quality backup quarterback on the roster. By quality, I mean someone who can play large chunks of the season while the offense suffers no drop off. Granted, it's a bit of a pipe dream for every team to have a Rodney Peete, Marc Bulger or Tommy Maddox, especially in a time when the salary cap has crippled a team's ability to hoard depth. But without one, an injury to a starter can cripple a team's playoff chances. Just ask the Miami Dolphins, who lost Jay Fiedler for six weeks, and in turn lost their chance to reach the postseason.
