Holdout leaves Seahawks thin at left tackle

Mike Holmgren's job is on the line after his first four seasons with the Seahawks has resulted in a 31-33 record. But the stars seem to be aligning to bring this team success. The offense finally came into its own at the end of last season, averaging 29 points a game over the final six weeks. Matt Hasselbeck trusted the offensive scheme and let it work for him, and the improved passing game opened up space for Shaun Alexander to average over 100 yards rushing over the same span.

Ray Rhodes was hired to improve a defense that was dead last against the run. Not only will the return of linebackers Chad Brown, Anthony Simmons, defensive tackle John Randle and cornerback Shawn Springs from injury help, but the team traded for tackle Norman Hand, signed speedy middle linebacker Randall Godfrey and added cornerback Marcus Trufant and safety Ken Hamlin with its first two draft picks. Plus, the team faces the easiest schedule in the league.
