Pittsburgh Penguins: Just after Sebastien Caron looked to be playing like Pittsburgh's goalie of the future last season, the Penguins draft phenom Marc-Andre Fleury with the first overall selection. But the 23-year-old Caron said it will push him even more as he tries to become Pittsburgh's No. 1 goaltender.

New York Islanders: Islanders coach Steve Stirling might be a rookie in the NHL, but he has a world of experience in hockey from Europe to college and the minor leagues.

Atlanta Thrashers: Thrashers general manager Don Waddell will take a different approach than some of his peers when dealing with arbitration hearings for Pasi Nurminen and Marc Savard this week. "I don't believe that you should try to beat up a player," Waddell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
