Chicago Bears: The radio and Internet reports that there were discussions about sending WR David Terrell to the 49ers for right OT Scott Gragg are false according to the Chicago Tribune. Rumors have escalated because with RT Marc Colombo's left knee healing more slowly than expected and questions about replacement Aaron Gibson's durability, the Bears could use another tackle. But coach Dick Jauron is pleased with his current stable of tackles. "I really do like our offensive tackles now," said Jauron. "They are inexperienced and I believe they'll play [well], but we've got to see them do it. So at this time, I would say no, we're not in a big hurry to trade for a tackle." That means that Terrell will be with the Bears for at least one more season, but there is no doubt that this is put up or shut up time for the former first-round pick.

New York Giants: TE Jeremy Shockey said some outlandish things as a rookie, and going into his second year it looks like he aims to do the same. Shockey is quoted in the new New York magazine as calling coach Bill Parcells a "homo." Following the Giants' pre-season loss to the Patriots Thursday, the pro-bowler tried to explain himself, saying he did not make the remark the way it was portrayed. "It's really not even remotely close to what I even interpreted to the guy," Shockey told the New York Daily News. "It's just something ... obviously, I didn't say it." This isn't the first time Shockey has been noted as making insensitive remarks about homosexuals. Shockey got into hot water last year after making disparaging remarks about gays on Howard Stern's show.

New York Jets: The club could have a new face in the backfield, and a big one at that. Backup DT James Reed, began practicing today as a fullback in goal-line situations. Reed, whose nickname is Tank, was a linebacker and offensive tackle in high school and occasionally lined up in the backfield on goal-line situations. "I love it," Reed told the New York Times. "If they let me get the ball, I'll love it more." That's not likely to happen, as Reed is just trying to master the art of moving on the right snap count. Reed worked with backup QB Brooks Bollinger to learn the right cadence. But there is no guarantee Reed will ever get into a game as a fullback.
