Thursday's piece on the Oakland A's and their walking
ways brought a lot of response. First of all, thanks
to everyone who pointed out that I referred to Ramon
Hernandez as "Roberto" Hernandez. I felt so guilty
about this that I did something to myself with a power
tool over the weekend as a way of self-punishment.
There was blood, screaming and intense pain but I
think I have learned my lesson and will not have to so
punish myself again -- at least until the next time I
do something like that.
- Jim: Your article about the A's and their OBP% is
interesting. The comments from Toby Price are way off
base and it is because of salary considerations not
player development. The 4 teams he refers to are 4 of
the top 6 spenders in the league and can afford higher
priced and better offensive players:
The entire A's starting offense combined
makes less than
Barry Bonds himself. Or what Jason Giambi will be making in
a year or two.
